Tommy stared out the window, he could not believe his seven
year old eyes what he saw outside coming towards the door. Out of all the
houses, in all the neighborhoods, in all the states, this was happening to him!
“Mom, come quick,” he yelled. Thirty-two year old Mandy Baker didn’t hear the
calls of her sandy haired son, she was busy in the kitchen trying to make mac
& cheese, pay bills online, and help five year old Katie with her math
homework. “Mommy”, come quick, he called out again.
Outside, dozens of balloons waved in the wind, as the
sunshine glimmered off the larger than life check that the man in the suit was
holding. “Okay everyone, let’s ring the door bell, and as soon as Mandy Baker
opens the door, lets all give a big yell.” Excitement ran through small crowd
filled with anticipation at this very important moment.
The doorbell rang, it rang again, and again. Tommy opened up
the door, and was jumping up and down. “Mom, mom, mom, come here, come here,
mom.” She never came. She never heard the door bell, or her son’s calls, or the
music playing right outside the door. “I am sorry son, but if your mom does not
come out and claim her prize, I am afraid we will have to move on to someone
else.” Tears welled up in Tommy’s big
blue eyes, how could his mom miss such an important moment? How could she not
hear his cries for attention?
Ladies, we all are busy in our life with children, school,
work, relationships, and problems. We get caught up in the daily grind, and
when an opportunity from God comes knocking, we do not hear it. Ecclesiastes
3:1, 4-5 shares, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every
activity under the heavens. A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to
scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to
refrain from embracing.” What does that mean for us? It means that instead of
focusing on what has to be done all the time, ask the Father what His season
(and purpose) is for that day or moment. You may find that He has surprises for
you that you did not even know existed!
How does that work? Revelation 3:10 shares, “Here I am! I
stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I
will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” God knocks at the
door of our hearts and shares with us that he wants to have intimacy with us.
In Bible times, eating dinner together was one of the most intimate times a
family could have together. Not only does the Father desire intimacy, but He
desires to bless you with all that you lack and need, and desire, for your good
and not evil! I am hear to tell you that
the Father is saying that just because a season looks like one thing, does not
dictate that is what is actually happen in the heavens! This new season will bring
opportunities for growth, blessing, abundance, peace, and new relationships.
So let’s rewrite the story. You hear the knock at the door,
you open it up, and instead of Ed McMahon, it is Jesus, the Father, and the
Holy Spirit, and their hands are full of gifts, food, and their voices full of
excitement. They say to you, “Daughter, we know that you are busy, but we will
wait for you to open the door. We will never leave you or forsake you!! So its
not that God doesn’t have a new season for you, but are you willing to put
excuses aside, open the door, and embrace all He has for you?
Blessings,
Jessica Smith
