Tabula-Rasa, what does that say to you? Is this some magic code? Is it a new type of diet drink? Is it the name of the next hit movie? One would like to think we have all the answers to something we do not understand. It is not funny that we often try to come up with some sort of explanation, hidden meanings, or even excuse for when there is something in our live that brings confusion, a big change, or even leaves us full of questions?

As women in a very busy society, not understanding something leaves us feeling dumb, restless, and annoyed. So annoyed in fact, that we start to ignore what we do not understand. What does this have to do with Tabula-Rasa? Thanks for asking! It has everything to do with Tabula-Rasa!

As we go through this week full of regret, anger, and confusion, Tabula-Rasa allows us to rewind to the beginning and start over, with a fresh start. In the Greek, “Tabula” means blank, and “rasa” means slate. Meaning in the Greek that we have something that has yet to be marked, determined, developed; not yet marked by experience, a story yet unwritten, an life that is yield to an author. Wow, so what does that have to do with you?

Lamentations 3:22-23 shares that the Lord’s love never ends; His mercies never stop, they are new every morning; and God’s loyalty is great (NCV). As we begin each day with our Father, He reaches out to us in love, mercy, renewal, and loyalty. Despite the hurts, fears, anger, and mistakes of the past, He wraps His loving arms around us, and says to us, “Daughter, I am with you, love you, and am ready to start this new day with you, fresh from the start.” As mentioned earlier, a blank slate also gives the idea that with God we have an unmarked, determined, and undeveloped opportunity to live a day with God, our life yielded to His hand, writing upon the tablet of our hearts.

Paul told the believers at Corinth that they were a letter of Christ, “written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone, but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart” (2 Corinthians 3:2-3).

So the challenge for us dear ladies is threefold, to first lay aside any excuses, misconceptions, or confusion about our daily walk with God, secondly, to refresh our heart and spirit in His loving Presence, and thirdly, allow our lives to become the blank slate that others may see His love and glory written in. He has given us an opportunity to become a real living testimony, a love message from the Father to the world Jesus died for. May the hurt you feel, and anger felt be the threshing ground for new growth, new beginnings, and the ink in which He uses to continue writing your love story with the Father.

Blessings,

Jessica Smith
